The Dearborn Education Foundation accepts grant applications from Dearborn Public Schools teachers and administrators only. If you are a parent, student, or volunteer within the Dearborn Public Schools district, you will need to work with your local school's teachers and administrators, so that one of them can apply.
The foundation will fund academic and extracurricular tools to enhance student achievement and teacher capacity. In the past, such tools have included sheet music, books, computers, athletic equipment, and entrance fees to student competitions--to name a few. The foundation will not fund stipends, teacher training, or field trips. The following links provide information on past funding awards:
Each year, in coordination with the Dearborn Public Schools' district, the foundation selects a funding theme. The goal of the theme is to highlight a particular need in the district for that year. Throughout the year, the foundation promotes that theme in its work. However, the funding theme does not dictate which applications are approved; it is not a criteria for funding. Regardless of the funding theme, all applicants are encouraged to apply.
Past themes were Language Arts, Technology, Enrichment through Arts and Music, and Connectivity. For the 2013-14 year, the funding theme is Health and Wellness.
Although you can apply for funding throughout the year, the foundation only reviews grant applications from September through May. Applications received in the months of May through August will be held for review until September.
You can expect a response about your application's funding status by the end of the following month. For example, if you submitted your application in September, you can expect a response no later than October 31st.
You can apply online by filling out the application below. Alternatively, you can download the application (in MS Word format) here; your completed application must be submitted (by mail or in person) to the Dearborn Education Foundation office.
