A licensed 501c3 non-profit organization, the Dearborn Education Foundation helps enhance the education that students receive from Dearborn Public Schools by funding teacher grants for technology, equipment and innovative programs not supported by the school district’s budget.  Over the years the Foundation has provided back to the teachers of Dearborn Public Schools over $1,300,000.

The Giving USA annual report on Philanthropy for 2010 published by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. Key points from the report include:

• Overall giving increased by 3.8% from last year, which reflects the modest economic     recovery achieved in 2010
• Individual donors donated 73% of all resources given in the US in 2010.
• Corporate donations increased 10.6%
• Charitable Bequests increased 18.8% in 2010: One in five estates claimed a deduction for a charitable bequest.
• Giving to education increased 5.2% in 2010. Analysis of leading education fundraising reports reveals that giving to educational organizations; especially K-12 schools seemed to rebound in 2010, when compared with 2009. Education is still the second most popular target for donors.

In summary: We are encouraged, these statistics demonstrate an increase in giving to education!
